COMPANY HISTORY: Royal Salt Co (Pty) Ltd (since 1996)

Simon Schiff started Royal Salt Pans in 1972.  He developed the company into a financially rewarding concern with the help of a loyal and competent management team. 

The take-over of Royal Salt Pans by Donald Brown Group in 1996 was to everyone's advantage as they could supply a wider range of products at a less expensive rate to the market.  Both Salt companies have had the same mission  - to supply a quality product at an affordable price.

Once the "Royal Marriage" between Royal Salt Pans and Donald Brown Group took place, the Seepo logo, got a new face.  The logo was used on all the 500 g and 1 kg packaging and the colours changed to match the new company's corporate colours and image. 

The colour coding is used to verify the different salts, i.e. blue = coarse salt; green = medium salt; orange = fine salt; purple = table salt.

The joint venture between Donald Brown Group and Royal Salt Pans has indeed proved to be mutually beneficial.  In the words of Simon Schiff , " I was reluctant to sell Royal Salt Pans at first - it is a company close to my heart and it was very important to me to find the right buyer.  Not only did I need the assurance that whoever buys my company, will carry on developing it and maintain the high standards I have set in the past; I also needed to know that my staff will be well looked after.  I have always had the highest regard for Donald Brown and Saltcor, and my decision to sell to him proved to be the right one.  I have received nothing but positive feedback from business acquaintances regarding the manner in which Donald and his team conducts business.  I am very glad I sold Royal Salt to professionals".

This was the start of a long and productive Royal Salt Co (Pty) Ltd today.

Royal Salt has primarily been distributing household and table salt in the Western Cape.  Sixty percent (60%) tonnage supply of Royal Salt's production for the South African market goes to the agricultural-; fishing-; and industrial sectors, while forty percent (40%) tonnage supply goes to the retail wholesale sector. 

On a National basis Royal Salt Co (Pty) Ltd today specializes in packaging of house-brand salts for well known leading retail companies in South Africa.  The company is also known for its renowned pool salt on a National basis.

Over the years Royal Salt have expanded their product range and now also have more quality Seepo brands, dishwashing salt and 5 kg all purpose salts.

The company is also known for its spice range, Salty Shakes, which consist of five leading spices, i.e. Salt & Pepper; Barbeque; Salt & Vinegar; Per-Peri and Salad Sprinkle.  The Salty Shakes recipe is done by a leading company in South Africa.

For cash counter sales, sea salt and inland salt packaging with a wide spectrum of coarse, medium, fine and table salt are made available to the public.

The factory is situated in Tygerberg Business Park in Cape Town.
